  having learned more actual christian beliefs since awaking from the org, looking back we had such strange and unhealthy obsession with demons compared to any other denomination that i know of.

  I recall a brother saying to me that Chris De Burgh was demonized, because he was listening to him in his room one night and he felt the bed shake and his legs being pulled from under him.

  Some months down the line, it turned out that it wasn't the demons but the family dog sleeping under the bed that caused the experience.

  I remember being at a Pioneer meeting the day before a circuit assembly, around 1997. The KH had cordless microphones, and during a dramatic pause in one of the speakers talks, 'Baby Love' by The Supremes came wafting over the sound system.

  Been listening to a lot of Miranda Lambert today. I'm not a big Country fan, but there's something about her style and her often witty lyrics that keeps me coming back.

  She's also in a side project called the Pistol Annies who are definitely worth checking out.

  I got a scholarship to go to grammar school, but my devout JW mum refused to let me go. It would be unfair she said, to take away a place from somebody else who would be staying on beyond the minimum term.

  So to seek first the Kingdom I was packed off to the local secondary school. Can you believe that? Still hurts 35 years on.

  in the old testament, god was always full of anger and jealousy resulting in the murder of millions of people.

  we’re told jesus perfectly reflects his fathers qualities.

  why in the new testament does jesus show no hint of anger and jealousy and wanting to kill people?

  Yes, TOTP was something I hardly ever saw on TV, as it was always Thursday nights.

  Lucky I was sick for the wonderful FA Cup final reply between Spurs and Man City back in 1981. That was a Thursday night too.

  i have read extensively about the origins of birthdays, and i still don't get it.

  but it's not what it means today.. even wedding veils were used to ward off the "evil eye".

  Yeh, I also wouldn't mind some clarification on the birthday issue.

  Is it a DF offence? That would mean that you could be expelled on the basis of having attended one birthday party but were 'unrepentant' of your gross sin.

  I should have thought that it was more of a 'marking' issue, where the person is engaged on an dangerous path but does not actually commit a gross sin.

  It may seem like splitting hairs, but being marked means that you can still access a support network to a degree, but without the hassle of having to socialise with JWs.

  I am not up to date with current non thinking on the issue, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  i can't remember, maybe steve jobs before he died.i thought i would share it with you and see what you think about it, and i'm quoting i think from his book.. "i'm about fifty-fifty on believing in god.

  for most of my life, i've felt that there must be more to our own existence than meets the eye.. i might be overestimating the odds 50/50 out of a desire to believe in an afterlife.

  Accepting the fact that I was going to die some day was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
